Vienna in December is a fairytale dream come true: Sugar and spice, snowflakes and sleigh bells, sparkle and candles, hot chestnuts and mulled wine at literally each corner of town.

At Duschel Apartments Xmas spirit is waiting right behind your doorstep: Vienna’s city center turns into a huge Christmas village with many well attended Xmas markets in between. Everybody goes there to meet friends, drink hot mulled wine or Punch and taste various regional specialties: Mainly traditional snacks and finger food like roasted chestnuts, hash browns, pancakes, sausages and of course gingerbread, sweets, sweets and more sweets. You can buy gifts as well: Traditional and modern Christmas tree decoration, handmade toys, jewelry and a huge range of art and handicraft often sold by the artists themselves. The markets take place daily until Christmas and the entrance is free. After Xmas the New Years Celebrations take over with fireworks, champagne and music stages with a unique public viewing atmosphere.  Traditional Viennese Christmas markets

  1. The huge: Vienna Christmas Market in front of Vienna city hall

Rathausplatz, 1st district – Subway U2 Station „Rathaus“ or Vienna Ring Tram.

Opens daily till Dec 24th from 10 a.m. till 9.30 p.m.

Tip: Go there at night when all the lights switch on. Plus: Inside Vienna city hall there is an open gift workshop for children going on (entrance at the side via Lichtenfelsgasse/Arkadenhof).

  1. The imperial: Christmas market in front of Schoenbrunn castle (13th district, between U4 stations Schoenbrunn and Hietzing)

Extraordinary Christmas season experience in front of the famous castle in imperial setting. Handicraft, Christmas decorations and culinary delights. East Tyrolean woodcarver Franz Oberschneider features different Christmas scenes with almost 250 figures.

Tip: The Christmas Market Schloss Schoenbrunn is followed directly by the New Year’s Market from 27 December 2015 until 3 January 2016 with daily jazz concerts and lucky charms to welcome New Year.

  1. The artistic: Handicraft Christmas market in front of Karlskirche/Karlsplatz (Resselpark)

„ART ADVENT“ opens daily from 12 to 8 p.m. Live concerts, walking acts, fire shows, children’s corner with petting zoo, great ambience.

 

  1. The traditional: Xmas Market „Am Hof“-Square, 1st district

Opens daily from 11 to 10 p.m. Live brass music each Friday 6-7 p.m. Small, posh, traditional, cosy.

  1. The family-friendly: Christmas Village Historic Hospital

University Campus – Courtyard 1, Alserstrasse / Spitalgasse, 9th district

 

The Christmas Village in the green oasis of the university campus – an experience for the whole family! Opening times: Monday – Friday: 2 p.m. – 10 p.m., Sat – Sun, holidays: 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Tip: Best market on cold and stormy days.

  1. The alternative: Xmas Market at Spittelberg quarter (7th district, U3/U2 Volkstheater)

The well restored Biedermeier quarter sets the scene for more than 100 stallkeepers offering their products to visitors from around the world. Arts and crafts and delicious treats await in the charming, tiny lanes of Vienna‘s former suburb. Fun meets culture at this romantic wintry village, only 10 minutes’ walk from Vienna’s city centre.

New Year’s Eve in Vienna at „Silvesterpfad“

Twelve hours program for both kids and grown-ups, waltz sounds as well as international Hits and an accompanying gastronomy.

And with “Oroundo Vienna”, you can not only participate in the world record attempt for the largest digital mobile phone fireworks display at midnight on the Town Hall square, but can also retrieve – without incurring data roaming charges – the information about the various locations and its respective programs.
