Event highlights for you in May
The start of spring usually implicates the awakening of the event season in Vienna. With this in mind we have summarized the best event highlights for the month of May just for you.
Opening in the first week of May, Summer Stage is celebrating its 20th anniversary right at the Danube Canal. Look forward to culinary journeys, readings, concerts, cooking classes and a lot of other specials throughout the summer until the end of September.
From the 6th to the 8th of May make sure not to miss out on more than 180 exhibitors presenting the best of Austria’s various regions at the Vienna Culinary Festival located in our beautifully blossoming Stadtpark. Current and aspiring fans of the Waldviertel should definitely check out the various delicacies offered at the „waldviertelpur“-event – happening right in front of Vienna City Hall from the 18th to the 20th of May.
Classic and Modern – Musical Event Highlights in May
Besides experiencing extravagant culinary specialties, Vienna also offers various musical events, like the Wiener Festwochen, starting at the 13th of May. Get to know the openness and the cultural side of Austria through concerts, operas, theater and other performances from different cultures all around the globe.
The annual Summer Night Concert in Schönbrunn is one of the most loved highlights during this time of year. Watch the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra perform open-air, right in front of the beautiful Gloriette – free admission!
For those who prefer to listen to more hard-edged music should book their tickets to AC/DC, Mumford & Sons and/or the Bryan Adams concert.
Donaukanaltreiben and The VIS Film Festival
Since 2004 the “Vienna Independent Shorts” Festival successfully devotes itself to the short film and offers a packed program from the 25th of 31st of May. The clips shown at this festival are no more than 30 minutes long and present new and old cinematic moments to suit everyone’s taste and demand.
Whoever finds himself strolling along the Viennese Danube Canal from the 27th to the 29th of May will have a hard time deciding on which activity to pick out of the huge program selection. From Yoga to concerts and parties – there is certainly something for everyone!
