The best places surrounded by greenery
Summer temperatures and plenty of sunlights means putting a picnic in Vienna on your To Do list. We gathered the best spots to present them to you on our blogpost.
Whether you are a big group or it is just the two of you – spending a beautiful day on a picnic feels like heaven on earth. There are many places in Vienna, where you can spread your blanket and relish your food and fresh drinks. A popular place to do so, is the Burggarten in the heart of the Viennese city center. Surrounded by the Hofburg, Palmen- and Schmetterlingshaus you can spend a whole afternoon. Another beautiful parc to have a picnic, is the Augarten at the second district. In Vienna’s oldest baroque garden, we also recommend to stop by the famous Augarten Porcelain Manufactory. In case you plan a visit at Schloss Schönbrunn, you should also grab your picnic basket to enjoy the marvelous view from the meadow underneath the Gloriette.
Picinic at the waterside
Another very popular place to spread a picnic blanket is the Donauinsel – also the Viennese people love to spend their day on the waterside. Unfortunately there are no real secret spots there, but we would highly recommend to spend your day at a tributary of the Old Danube, the Kaiserwasser. There is plenty of space for everybody – whether you are hungry for the sun or not. Surrounded by skyscrapers and tall trees you can enjoy your picnic the whole day through.
Above the roofs of Vienna
If you decide to take a walk outside of the city center, you will be rewarded with a beautiful view over the city. Take your chance and have your picnic at the Kreuzeichenwiese. To get there, you have to take the U3 until “Hütteldorf” and the buses 43A or 43B until “Höhenstraße/Marswiese”. You will start from the restaurant “Klee am Hanslteich” and after a walk of 40 minutes in the beautiful nature you will reach the Kreuzeichenwiese to unpack your picnic basket. Another popular spot is the Himmelwiese in the 19th district – the view over the city is breathtaking.
